This morning, the Nas Carabinieri of Naples, assisted by soldiers from the Provincial Commands of Naples and Caserta, carried out a search decree issued by the Public Prosecutor of Naples, pm Maria Di Mauro in charge of personalities and companies in orbit of the health sector.
The recipients of the benefit are suspected of belonging to a criminal association intended to commit the crimes of fraud and abusive exercise of the healthcare profession, tending to the irregular execution of rhino-pharyngeal swabs in the context of the Covid19 health emergency.
The activities arose from some verifications, inspections and controls carried out by the Nas military in the organizational chain in charge of health screening, aimed at establishing its regularity both in terms of legitimacy of the authorization, and the suitability of the professionals employed. In this context, the operators identified a website that sponsored the execution of swabs and serological tests for the Covid19 investigation, with the possibility of online reservations.
Subsequent investigations revealed an organization made up of health personnel, some of whom have agreements with the Regional Health Service and are employed in local emergency stations (118), collaborators of a company that operates in the field of marketing medical devices and various fixatives, dedicated to the illicit execution of rhino-pharyngeal swabs at home, processed immediately or at pre-established points, through electromedical devices and kits instrumental that were not statutory or inappropriate. for the specific diagnostic test and, therefore, potentially dangerous also for the spread of the epidemic.
Particularly interesting was the result of the searches carried out today that allowed collecting elements on the real illegality in the execution procedure and subsequent analysis and reporting activities, as well as the seizure of abundant health-certification documentation, as well as 10,000 swab kits, some of which have expired, hundreds of rapid tests, computer equipment, medical electrical equipment to process swabs and serological tests, as well as a large sum of money.
As part of the operation, a machinery designed for the detection of animal viruses instead it is used to analyze human samples. For each tampon one variable price between 40 and 60 euros. Furthermore, when the swab was positive, the patients were sent home and not sent to adequate facilities for their care. Today a total of twenty searches have been made, against companies and individuals, while a dozen subjects were involved, including National Health Service doctor. The Public Ministry assumes, for now, the crime of association for fraud purposes. It is not excluded that, in light of the investigative findings and the analysis of the documentation acquired, the crime of malicious epidemic.
