Starting tomorrow 30 thousand pulse oximeters They will be distributed free of charge in pharmacies to families in which there is a member suffering from respiratory diseases. Announces it to Ansa Luca richeldi, President of the Italian Society of Pneumology and member of the Scientific Technical Committee (Cts). The initiative is in collaboration with Federfarma and will involve 1,200 pharmacies throughout Italy. The goal is also to prevent serious complications related to Covid-19, which are particularly dangerous for these patients.

Second dose of vaccines after 21 days
“In Italy, for the moment, the indication to carry out the second dose, or the booster, of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine remains, after 21 days from the inoculation of the first. This is based on the current indications of the Italian pharmaceutical agency Aifa and the available studies ”, explained Richeldi, speaking of vaccines.
Pulse oximeter, what it is and how it works
the oximeter It is a very easy-to-use tool that allows evaluating the oxygen saturation of the hemoglobin present in the peripheral arterial blood (defined as ‘SpO2’) and, at the same time, it allows measuring the heart rate of the subject. Also known as a pulse oximeter or oximeter, it allows you to measure and monitor the degree of oxygen saturation in your blood even when you are at home. It is a device that has an LED screen and, once it is turned on, simply insert your finger into the tool: the LED will illuminate the central part of the nail and after a few seconds the oxygen saturation and heart rate are read and indicated.
The principle of operation on which the oximeter is based is that of spectrophotometry. Only the oxygen saturation in the blood is a blood index that allows to establish the degree of respiratory function of the individual. As for the saturation values, when they are higher than 95% they are considered normal. If the patient has values below 95%, it is in the presence of a hypoxemic condition. The situation is defined as serious when the values are equal to or less than 85%. In this case, the doctor should be informed. The use of the oximeter, in the case of patients with Covid-19, is essential to assess respiratory function, whose worsening may be related to serious complications of SasrCov2 infection.
