The mother of the girl abandoned at the Palermo Children’s Hospital and tested positive for Covid has been arrested. The woman was in Catania and she is now being charged with the crime of child abandonment.
The little girl stayed in the hospital at the end of October. Now she is completely cured and has been admitted to a center. Police investigations initially identified two women, who later disappeared. Now the child’s mother has been traced to Catania.
The baby had been abandoned in recent weeks in Di Cristina by two women and after the test she had tested positive for coronavirus. After a month of hospitalization, she left the infectious diseases department and was taken over by the municipal social services. The Roma women who brought the child told the doctors that they were the aunts. The first one went to the ER on October 12 and then ran away. Then a second woman went to the hospital. He thought he could take the girl who had tested positive in the meantime. After five days of hospitalization in the ward with her niece, this second aunt also lost track. The Juvenile Prosecutor’s Office had already taken steps to request the court the state of abandonment to proceed with the custody of the minor.
The precautionary measure was requested by the deputy Annamaria Picozzi and was ordered by the investigating judge Piergiorgio Morosini.
