Covid outbreak in Treviglio hospital, positive patients, doctors and nurses

Covid outbreak in the Treviglio hospital: to date, there are already a dozen confirmed cases of coronavirus positivity, including 5 patients in the Cardiology department and 5 operators (three nurses, a doctor and a social-assistance assistant). The patients have already been transferred to the Covid ward of the Bergamo hospital, which is full today: but the goal announced by Asst Bergamo Ovest is to reach 150 Covid beds in Treviglio plus another 150 also in the Romano hospital.

Then the situation would seem to be under control. Confirmation of positivity came on Wednesday: the swabs on the carpet were taken after a positive case confirmed among the nurses. Cardiology patients, who have already been transferred, are doing well although in three of them Covid symptoms have already been found: the next few days, in this sense, will be decisive.

Cardiology closed for 12 hours

On the other hand, health workers who test positive for the virus would be asymptomatic: as usual, in cases like these, they are already in home isolation and before returning to work -in 10 or 14 days- they will obviously undergo a control swab . As a precautionary measure, the cardiology center was closed for 12 hours to allow disinfection and revision of the tampons.

Internal hospital research

A circumstance that, especially in Bergamo, recalls the terrible days at the end of February, when the first cases of coronavirus were recorded in the Alzano Lombardo hospital. The beginning of a nightmare, which is not over yet. Hospitals are now better equipped (or at least prepared) to deal with the second wave. The Treviglio cluster confirms it: transferred patients, isolated operators. Chapter closed, for now: the health department has already announced that it has launched an internal investigation, to understand how Covid could enter the hospital.
