Covid kills 3 Tuscans in 24 hours, 139 new cases

The victims lived in the provinces of Florence, Lucca and Pisa. The average age of the new positives is currently 38 years, 74% have no symptoms.

TUSCANY – After many months in which, at least in Tuscany, deaths from Covid-19 had become sporadic, in the last 24 hours there have been three, a 61-year-old man who died in Lucca, an 87-year-old woman who died in the Pisa area, another man who died in Florence. The total number of people who died from the infection in the region rises to 1,156.

The new positive cases included in the daily bulletin of the region are 139, 53 identified by tracing the contacts of already infected people and 86 by screening (tests carried out for reasons of travel or work, without manifestation of symptoms). People infected with Covid since the beginning of the emergency become 14,355.

The average age of 139 cases today is Around 38 years28% are under 26, 30% between 26 and 40, 30% between 41 and 65, 12% are over 65. Four new cases are linked to returns from abroad, one of them on vacation in Spain. Three other cases can be linked to returns from other Italian regions, two from Sicily and one from Sardinia).

63% of the cases are a contact of a Covid case already diagnosed. Regarding the clinical states, the 74% were asymptomatic, 20% pauci-symptomatic.

There are 31 new cures and the total amounts to 9,938 (69.2% of all cases).

In the last 24 hours, 7,245 swabs were made, for a total of 709,159.

Currently the positives are 3261 today, + 3.3% compared to yesterday. Of them, 111 are hospitalized (8 less than yesterday), 24 of them in intensive care. Another 3,150 people who contracted the virus are isolated at home, with mild symptoms that do not require hospital treatment or are asymptomatic (113 more than yesterday). There is a slight decrease in isolated people after contact with an infected person: today there are 5,900, 44 less than yesterday (Asl Centro 1,746, Northwest 3,265, Southeast 889).

The following are the cases of positivity in the area with the change compared to yesterday:

– 4,168 cases in total to date in Florence (30 more than yesterday), 846 in Prato (13 more), 1,004 in Pistoia (8 more),

– 1,507 in Massa (7 more), 1,784 in Lucca (11 more), 1,478 in Pisa (28 more), 704 in Livorno (12 more),

– 1,126 in Arezzo (20 more), 602 in Siena (7 more), 590 in Grosseto (3 more).

There are 546 positive cases reported in Tuscany but residing in other regions.

Tuscany remains in 10th place in Italy in terms of number of cases (including residents and non-residents), with approx. 385 cases per 100,000 inhabitants (Italian average of 504 x 100,000, yesterday’s figure). The notification provinces with the highest rate are Massa Carrara with 773 cases x 100,000 inhabitants, Lucca with 460, Florence with 412, Livorno with 210.

Tuscany’s crude death rate (number of deaths / resident population) for Covid-19 is 31.0 x 100,000 residents versus 59.3 x 100,000 for the Italian average (11th region). Regarding the provinces, the highest mortality rate is found in Massa Carrara (90.8 x 100,000), Florence (41.4 x 100,000) and Lucca (38.4 x 100,000), the lowest in Grosseto (11.3 x 100,000).
