Five grandparents, four women, and a man died within days in the nursing home «Ricovero della Provvidenza» in Torre del Greco where, only today, an outbreak was discovered. From the confirmed positivity of an elderly woman, on November 24, the infections followed one another in a chain and thus the deaths of five older than ninety years who already suffered from other pathologies. The Opera Pia Foundation (non-profit organization) chaired by Monsignor Salvatore ardesini He handled the outbreak with complete autonomy, on his own and with grueling shifts.
From what they report, in fact, from the first positive result on November 24, the local health authorities and the municipal operations center were alerted, which, however, would not have intervened. Thus, as had already happened since last February, the same Foundation was in charge of activating the protocols by alerting general practitioners and privately delivering swabs to the 40 older guests and 20 operators. Of this internal screening, 25 guests and 4 operators tested positive, the first isolated at the facility and the second isolated at home. Only today, after the last two deaths on December 7, the ASL intervened in the structure and subjected everyone to a swab. The results will be seen in the next few days.
“It is specified – reads a note from the Foundation – that from the first wave, all the prescribed prevention procedures have been followed, with special attention, both for operators and guests, many of whom already suffer from various pathologies. The Foundation has reported what has been done to the competent health authorities and has provided all the useful elements to identify the origin of the outbreak, and expresses its closeness to the families of the affected guests ”.
