The periodic report on the progress of the covid-19 epidemic in the city of Naples highlights that in the last two weeks of November there was a “substantial decrease” in infections, but the situation in Municipalities VII remains “critical” ( Miano, San Pietro a Patierno, Secondigliano) and VIII (Chiaiano, Scampia, Piscinola) and stresses that “the increase in the average age of infections and mortality is a sign to be carefully considered”.

The report is the result of a study commissioned by the Naples City Council, by the Department responsible for Health, led by Francesca Menna, and coordinated by Giuseppe Signoriello (Unit of Medical Statistics of the Luigi Vanvitelli University of Campania).

The data shows that in the period between August 1 and the beginning of November there is an “exponential” growth in cases of covid positivity that decreases in the following weeks. The analysis shows that an increase in covid cases is still observed in the city of Naples with a cumulative increase of approximately 29031. In the week of November 23-29, 2,640 cases were reported, down from the previous week in which cases there had been 4,159.

The city of Naples shows an increasing incidence of covid-19 compared to the rest of Campania, which is reflected in the mortality data “significantly increased” in the last period with a current mortality rate that is “more than double in comparison with that Campania (43.6 compared to 19.2 x 100,000 inhabitants) “. In the field of hospital admissions, the study shows that the number of hospitalizations after a period of growth remains “stable” in recent days, while the number of intensive care is decreasing.

Those most affected by the covid, in the month of November, are the elderly who also represent the classes with “the highest risk of hospitalization and mortality.” In contrast, in the last two weeks, subjects younger than 18 years had the lowest incidence. Analyzing the map of contagion district by district, it is highlighted that in the last two weeks in all the Municipalities there has been a reduction in the incidence of infections: in general, Municipalities VII and VIII present the highest incidence values compared to the other Municipalities.
