Covid in Italy, “now there has been a phase change, a major burden on hospitals”

A passage of the epidemic phase in Italy. Thus begins – and an attack of concern, the day that new infections exceed 5,300 again – the weekly monitoring, relative to the period September 28 – October 4, 2020, on the situation of the pandemic COVID-19 in Italy, prepared by the Ministry of Health and the Higher Institute of Health.

The monitoring also immediately indicates which element is the most worrying: for the first time in a long time, there are important signs of criticality related to the spread of the virus in our country. There is a significant burden of local services that must be monitored for their potential effects on welfare services.

Of course, the government has implemented reinforced measures, but it is necessary to avoid events and initiatives with risk of aggregation in public and private places and to adopt rigorous individual behaviors with conscience (in particular physical distancing and the use of masks) to limit the risk of transmission to avoid further and faster worsening of the epidemic.

As reported, the cumulative incidence in the last 14 days was 44.37 per 100,000 inhabitants (compared to 34.2 per 100,000 inhabitants in the previous period).

In the period from September 17 to 30, 2020, the TR calculated on symptomatic cases was equal to 1.06.

The active foci are 3,805 active shoots, of which 1,181 new: outbreaks are present in 104 of 107 provinces. Most of these outbreaks continue to occur at home (77.6%), while transmission in the educational and recreational context remains, for now, very limited.
