In Second wave of Coronavirus contagion runs between the shores of the school. So far, more than 500 schools have registered at least one case of covid in their classrooms and more than 80 of them have been closed. At the head of the affected schools are Lombardy, Emilia Romagna, Tuscany and Lazio. Rome is the city with the most affected schools, up to 22. In Bologna there are 16 while in Milan 14. This is revealed by the data collected by a young researcher, Vittorio Nicoletta and a university student, Lorenzo Ruffino, who have developed a database constantly updated on the situation of infections in Italian schools, with navigable map and graphics.

From their survey, it appears that the positive cases in 74% of the cases are students, in 13% teachers, the rest are other members of the staff. In total, in Italy there are 8 thousand institutes for 30 thousand facilities. A third of infections occur in secondary schools, while more than 40% occur among the youngest, in kindergarten and elementary school. At the regional level, Lombardy, Emilia Romagna and Tuscany are the most affected: respectively 99, 78 and 67 have registered at least one positive.

Interviewed by the newspaper Open, one of the authors of the investigation, Lorenzo Ruffino, affirms that “there is no public document on the subject.” The young economics student explains that “the Higher Institute of Health does not have a database dedicated to schools” and that he does not know “if the MIUR is conducting such research, but in any case no communication is given.” Citizens, on the other hand, need to know this type of information. A few days after the publication of its report, the Ministry of Education took steps to monitor cases in schools with its own database so that data on infections are available to everyone.
