Of course, the 238 from the Arzano outbreak are included, but even yesterday the data danced: we went to 2,761 cases. And it’s the new record of infections in Campania since the pandemic began. Not only because the percentage of intensive care beds occupied by Covid-19 patients exceeds the alarm threshold of 30 percent for the first time in the region despite the fact that routine interventions in public and private hospitals have been blocked.
But triggering panic is also the way out of Walter Ricciardi, the consultant of the Ministry of Health, who affirms that “in Milan and Naples a confinement would be needed because you can also get infected by going to the bar.” There, in Lombardy, Fontana and Sala arise, in Campania only Magistris. While for hours the rumor begins to circulate that the provision of a red zone for Naples is about to start from the Palazzo Santa Lucia. It is not true in the end but in the very long meeting of the crisis unit it was discussed.

Seven regions have a “red code”, because “they reveal a very sustained increase in hospitalizations and intensive care when compared to the acute phase registered in April”. Campania leads “with hospitalizations more than double compared to April (+2.4 times)”. This is the alarming figure from the national health observatory in the Italian regions coordinated by Walter Ricciardi, a professor at Cattolica but above all a consultant to the Minister of Health.
An already negative figure to which is added the scenario of two Italian cities that Professor Ricciardi himself illustrates: «In Milan and Naples, you can take Covid by entering the bar, the restaurant, on the bus. Being in close contact with a positive is very easy because the virus circulates a lot. In these areas the blockade is necessary, in other areas of the country it is not. And he adds: «If you are in Milan it is a place where you can also take it to the cinema. In other cities the situation is not the same. In Milan and Naples, any activity that involves approaching people in closed spaces is unthinkable ”. In fact, he adds, we are in the presence of “thousands of asymptomatic subjects who return home, where you do not wear a mask, you kiss and hug”.
Words like stones in a region like Campania where yesterday, among other things, it was decided not to reopen even primary schools despite the fact that De Luca last week was afraid to return to class at least for primary.
However, the scenario illustrated by Ricciardi is nothing new. On Saturday, Governor De Luca illustrated at the State-regions conference how the peak of infections both in Naples and in his province. “There is a territorial problem in the Covid emergency, 60 percent of the infections are in the metropolitan area of Naples. TOWe ban mobility between provinces, but we should make the entire metropolitan area of Naples a red zoneThe governor explained to his colleagues and ministers Boccia and Speranza. The idea, that of a Neapolitan red zone, shone last week in Santa Lucia but, the technicians of the Region realized, impossible to implement. Because one thing is a country of 30-40 thousand inhabitants with few accesses and, therefore, controllable by the military and the police, another thing is a city of one million inhabitants and, worse still, its province. But it was precisely from this impossibility that last week the order was taken to prohibit the transfer from one province to another in Campania. In short, before the Ricciardi alarm, the case of Naples was already known.
It may also be for this reason that no reactions are triggered to the consultant of the Ministry of Health from Palazzo Santa Lucia. Zero because the painting was already sadly known. Instead, the mayor of Naples gets angry Luigi of Magistris but more than anything because of the irritation of communication: «Here are the words: whoever has the elements to make an official communication must do so first in institutional places, then we communicate it in the press as necessary for transparency reasons. Otherwise – attacks the mayor of Naples – we only generate alarmism and concern and in the end we do nothing good ».
