Arezzo, August 29, 2020 – With a pen and a map, you could draw the contagion map and the vacation map together. Because the summer is ending, but this Covid brand tidal wave has not yet. Indeed, despite the calendar it rises and grows as it wanted to resist the season. And after all, for 14 days there remains the danger of being discovered positive: and that is why we are still here, among those who returned after August 15 and those who have reappeared in the city since then. The synthesis? Fifteen cases.
A heavy alarm bell. Such a figure had not been found since April 29: at that time there were 14. But it was another Covid season, the one that reached its peak but knowing that it was still far away. The one that registered braking and furious forward sprints. Since then, the world has changed: but at least according to the data, we have been there, almost four months ago.
Fifteen cases and two more hospitalizations: now there are three of them in infectious diseases, a department that is beginning to retake the structure of Covid. Among the hospitalizations, we do not know if already in this report, a doctor whose condition is alarming a country. Of those who run on each call, always available and therefore may have had many contacts. Of the 15 infected, most are young but those who end up in hospital are not.
A 71-year-old man from Arezzo, who has just returned from Forte dei Marmi, we imagine following a tradition that comes from far away, and a 68-year-old woman from Arezzo, who needed hospitalization, the latter returned from Sardinia. That at this moment is in the eye of the storm, certainly much more than that April 29: paying dearly for the deep bond that so many have with that land and that silver sea.
Yesterday 4 cases from Arezzo linked to the “island” (as the Sardinians call it in contrast to the “mainland”): in addition to the lady, a thirty-year-old from San Giovanni, a couple from Arezzo and a twenty-year-old from Foiano. Forbidden details: it is impossible to know if they come from the Costa Smeralda and its now known foci or from other areas of the island.
An island that, however, in the prey of contagion is also reached by other places in its debut: Palma de Mallorca, for example, where it could have been taken by a seventy year old from San Giovanni. Or Ibiza, which in a single blow betrayed a couple from Civitella: engaged, she 26, he 28, both asymptomatic
And then again old Rimini, which has always been a popular and safe sea, a little less this summer, this time fatal for a twenty-eight-year-old from Montevarchi. Indirectly fatal, it was only the contact of those who had been in Rimini and, we hope, had also enjoyed it. From Capolona, a twentysomething returned from Cervia: always a client of the Pinarella nightclub in August? It is a hypothesis but for now without confirmation.
Then cases in Castiglion Fibocchi, in Caprese, neighbor of a previous infected person, who also returned from Albania. And still a thirty-year-old from Bibbiena and forty from Ortignano Raggiolo, but in which more controls are being carried out to know if the result was really positive. Most asymptomatic but this time they had had seven of the signs and in some cases clear.
Another sign? We will meet soon. But struggling with a phenomenon that begins to take shape. In San Giovanni, for example, there are currently seven people infected in total. And the quarantines continue to increase: only for yesterday’s cases have been fixed 31. And others will arrive shortly, between the beaches and the closed door.
