Covid, Campania in the balance between the orange and yellow zone. But still too many deaths

Tonight, around 8 pm, the Prime Minister’s press conference is expected. Giuseppe Conte, during which the Prime Minister should illustrate the anti-Covid measures planned for the Christmas holidays, but also communicate the decisions on the risk areas in the different Italian regions. The data published in today’s bulletin, Thursday, December 3, by the Crisis Unit of Campania region could induce the Ministry of Health to soften contagion measures, inserting Campania in the orange or even yellow zone: today, in fact, the ratio between positive people and tampons performed was reduced to 9.3% (2,295 new cases out of 24,709 swabs, one of the lowest figures during this second wave). Pressure on hospitals is also dropping significantly, with intensive care wards and Covid inpatient wards far less crowded than before the red zone was established.

However, the data that still leaves an alarm on is the one relating to deaths. According to what we read in the bulletin on the progress of the epidemic released today at 5:00 p.m. by the Regional Crisis Unit, I am 54 deaths recorded: of these, 28 died in the last 48 hours, while the other 26 correspond to the last days but were registered only in the last 24 hours. This is a fact that could lead the government to leave the red zone and the restrictive measures that follow unchanged. In summary, the general trend of the curve in recent weeks, with the decrease in infections and the positive buffer ratio that has been significantly reduced, would suggest that Campania can be “promoted” at least in the orange area, but the number of deaths, as mentioned, is still too high: so the official communication from the Government is expected, which should reach the Premier Conte conference.
