In relation to the Covid-19 emergency, today in the province of Taranto there was an increase of 17 new positive cases and one death; data that adds to the many other positive aspects that have occurred in recent days in the Ionian territory.
The situation, in any case, seems to be under the control of the ASL of Taranto, which reassures everyone with the statements of the director of the Prevention Department, Michele Conversano.
“Infections in the province of Taranto have increased – explains Dr. Conversano – We expected it but we were not caught off guard. In particular, two particular situations are being monitored: Villa Genusia and the case of workers in aPolignano Company. In the first case, as they are especially frail subjects due to being elderly, the entire ASL takes care of the organizational aspects and the operators of the Infectious Diseases department for clinical-care aspects.
In addition, our Prevention department is managing the problem “inherited” from the outbreak created in a company in Polignano, where hundreds of residents of our province work. To deal with this situation, a very strict precautionary measure was issued, but essential to prevent further spread of infections. In fact, we have prepared theFiduciary isolation for all those who have worked in this company in the last 14 days – and there are about three hundred – who travel every day from our province to Polignano, using company buses.. We have found the maximum collaboration of all interested mayors, starting with the mayor of Grottaglie, which is the municipality of the province where the largest number of workers of the company in question reside. We are preparing for a mass swab run scheduled for Sunday morning at the Palazzetto dello Sport in Grottaglie: it will be a great effort, essential to prevent a further increase in infections.
The population of Taranto and its province can be calm because all possible outbreaks are controlled, tracing close contacts of positive cases, arranging fiduciary home isolation, and execution of the nasopharyngeal swab.
It is important not to undermine the sacrifice made in the last months of the confinement. The circulation of many positive subjects, who do not know that they are positive because they are asymptomatic, should reinforce the conviction that precautionary and preventive behaviors on the part of the population are fundamental. The only measures that guarantee against the risk of contagion are respect for interpersonal distance, the use of a mask and constant disinfection of the hands.
Compliance with the regulations is also essential in view of the imminent opening of schools, in which the reunion of children will be inevitable: the only tool to avoid contagion is the adoption of all safety measures and responsible behavior.
Starting tomorrow, a station will also be operational drive-through in the socio-sanitary district of Manduria, for the execution of swabs in the car, which will add to the already in operation a Massafra».
