Covid-19, increase in infections in Basilicata: message from the President of the Region

“As you know, the rule that we have set ourselves as a Region to combat Covid-19 is prevention.

For this reason, the projection that we have been making for some time in the rsa, among the police forces, among the health personnel and all those who are in the front row in these events is important.

And it is thanks to this monitoring system that we discovered, this morning, an outbreak of about thirty positive people at an RSA at Marsicovetere.

A fact that should not scare us. The Potenza health company immediately implemented all the necessary measures to prevent the spread of any contagion.

Unfortunately, a 90-year-old woman suffering from pneumonia and already hospitalized in the Potenza infectious diseases department died. The lady was admitted to the nursing home in question. The screening we are doing at RSA is used precisely for this, to monitor and extinguish any outbreak of infection. Knowing very well that the virus can turn deadly when it attacks patients with previous illnesses.

I must also say that the number of tampons from August 1 to today has increased by more than 50%. And it is obvious that as the number of tampons increases, the greater the probability of finding healthy carriers of Covid. But this shouldn’t scare us. It is quite clear that until the vaccine arrives we must continue to maintain all the possible measures that you know. Avoiding meetings, wearing the mask correctly indoors, washing hands frequently, are just some of the measures that prevent the pandemic from circulating.

Positive cases are likely to increase with the opening of schools. But even here, proper prevention gives us the opportunity to act immediately. In short, as you know, the national scientific technical committee believes that with the autumn and the approach of winter there may be a second wave. It is up to us individually to take all of these steps to protect our health and that of our loved ones.

The Region has never lowered its guard and continues to monitor, control and prevent with the greatest attention to counteract the spread of the infection on the one hand and the assistance and attention to those who contracted the virus on the other. And this is what has made Basilicata a virtuous region that is taken as an example at the national level of how we have fought against the pandemic. And this is thanks mostly to your behavior and your sense of responsibility. To which I appeal again.

We owe it to our loved ones, we owe it to our community. “
