Incidence rate more than double
Returning to Bologna, in about three weeks the pandemic incidence rate of Covid-19, that is, the number of positives per 100,000 inhabitants, in the city it has more than doubled: from 39.2 to 89. It means that “here too, as in all of Italy, we are facing a growth that is beginning to be exponential and no longer linear”, underlines the municipal councilor for Health. Giuliano Barigazzi, responding in question time to a question presented by Simona Lembi (Pd). The data on the evolution of the pandemic “highlight an important development both in absolute terms and in the incidence rate”, says Barigazzi, inviting “not to look at the data day by day but week by week, otherwise there are fluctuations, in particularly on Sundays and Mondays as well because there are often fewer tampons, which can be misleading. “
That said, today “one outlines significant growth of new cases both at company level and in individual districts, in particular that of the city of Bologna, something obvious – continues the commissioner – because, of course, the virus is spreading particularly in urban areas, not only in Italy but throughout the world “.
Regarding the district of the city of Bologna, therefore, the incidence rate jumped from 39.2 to 89 if we compare the week of October 5 with the current one, not yet finished. At the metropolitan level, the average rate is 79. Meanwhile, 81,000 cases have been observed since the beginning of the epidemic and, Barigazzi reports, between October 1 and 21 there was an increase of 1,745 units; 722 overall deaths always since the start of the pandemic. There are currently 1,500 people under surveillance, with about 85 identified outbreaks of which 41 are relatives (which does not necessarily mean born in the family, specifies the commissioner).
Rt index above 1 and intensive care tripled
At the same time, the transmissibility index Rt “starts to be above 1, we are towards 1.25 but it fluctuates a lot according to the days – says Barigazzi- and even that will be calculated on the last 14 “. In any case, we are at the levels “that lead to scenario 3 indicated by the Cts -adds Barigazzi- which is a sustained transmissibility”. October, then, ordinary hospitalizations went from 40 to 132 and they are increasing a lot these days ”, continues the commissioner, while hospitalizations in intensive care They have gone from three to 36. But “they have been in existence for a few days and therefore they evolve. Unfortunately they are going to grow”, warns Barigazzi.
More than half of the people are asymptomatic and among those hospitalized very serious or very serious cases they are not as many as in March and April, “But the pressure on hospitals is growing significantly,” Barigazzi emphasizes. Regarding the age groups, 75% of the cases are in the year zero-60; between 18 and 49, 34% of the cases are concentrated and 12% fall in the range 0-17. Between the ages of zero and 40, almost half (46%) of infections are located.
“The epidemic is manifesting in an important way“, reiterates the commissioner:” The main route we must follow is follow-up. We are strengthening human resources for the location of contacts, other people are arriving to join the already substantial group of the department ”. Furthermore, “we have started a simplified procedure for epidemiological investigations, which are called essential”, adds Barigazzi. .
Lepore: “If the government closes swimming pools and gyms we will adapt”
“We are not sure what will happen in the next few weeks. If steps are taken to close those plants at the national or regional level, it won’t be because things are not working in Bologna. In case of course we will adapt – The municipalities cannot exceed the national standards, but knowing that they have done everything possible to avoid it. “Thus, the Councilor for Sports of the Bologna City Council, Matteo lepore, in response, read by colleague Elena Gaggioli, in the question time of Councilor Umberto Bosco (Lega) on the controls of swimming pools and gyms.
