Today’s newsletter also confirms the ever-growing trend of new coronavirus infections: 5,372 throughout Italy, 233 in Sicily, 85 in the province of Palermo. 7,151 swabs were processed on the island in the last 24 hours (3.25% of which were positive). There are four other deaths that had been infected by Covid-19: Three are in Palermo: two elderly people of 98 and 83 years old and a woman of 95, another man in Caltanissetta of 71.
Although today there is a low number of cured cases (24), the total amounts to 4,478 of the 8,712 total cases since the beginning of the pandemic. The current positives on the island are still 3,901, of these 3,490 are in home isolation. Then there are 376 people hospitalized in hospitals (the same as yesterday), plus 35 in intensive care (+2). This is the subdivision of the cases by province: Catania 77, Messina 22, Trapani 7, Syracuse 11, Ragusa 15, Enna 0, Agrigento 12 and Caltanissetta 4.
Councilor for Health Ruggero Razza today he took stock of the emergency: “Closure in Sicily? Let’s think about the selective closure in some areas. The situation of the hospitals on the island is under control, the choice of the Region will be to do all possible diagnostic tests to detect even asymptomatic positives”.
