The contagion curve continues to rise. In Sicily, new cases of Coronavirus have reached a record number of 796 in the last 24 hours. Just under half were registered in the province of Palermo (351), the day that Mayor Leoluca Orlando announced the new anti-harvest ordinance, establishing areas of the city where pedestrians will be able to walk but not stop. There are eight victims (the Region has not yet communicated the corresponding province).
The swabs processed on the island were 7,732, which means that one test in 10 is positive. Cases are also increasing in the rest of Italy: in fact, there are more than 16 thousand new infections. As the number of infections increases, so does the pressure on hospitals: hospitalized patients reach 588 (+23 compared to yesterday), while patients in intensive care increase to 88 (+6). Therefore, there are 676 people with Covid in the hospital, the other 7,863 are in home isolation. The percentage of people needing hospital care drops to 7.9% compared to 12% a couple of weeks ago. For those who object that only a small part of those who contract the virus need medical attention, it should be remembered, however, that the higher the number of infections, the more the absolute number of those who end up in hospital increases.
Another 98 people are cured. This is the division of the new cases by province: Catania 211, Messina 47, Trapani 60, Syracuse 24, Ragusa 49, Enna 7, Caltanissetta 28, Agrigento 19.
The situation in the rest of Italy
The new coronavirus bulletin from the Ministry of Health says today that the number of Covid patients has risen to more than 169,000, levels that were never reached during the first wave. Today there are 16,079 new cases, of which 4,125 in Lombardy, 1,550 in Piedmont, 1,541 in Campania, 1,325 in Veneto, 1,251 in Lazio, 1,145 in Tuscany. Of the more than 169,000 positives currently, 9,694 are hospitalized, 992 in intensive care.
