Never have so many swabs been processed in Sicily. In fact, in the last 24 hours the highest figure since the beginning of the pandemic was registered: 8,131 swabs (yesterday there were 3,252). This is clear from the bulletin released today by the Ministry of Health, which reports 574 new cases of Coronavirus in our region (yesterday there were 362), 86 discharged-cured (130 yesterday) and 10 deaths (3 yesterday).
On the other hand, there are 5 more patients in intensive care, for a total of 77. Currently, 619 patients are hospitalized in hospitals on the island; while 6,878 are in home isolation.
This is the report of the infections in the provinces: 22 Agrigento, 16 Caltanissetta, 202 Catania, 28 Enna, 28 Messina, 137 Palermo, 44 Ragusa, 35 Syracuse, 62 Trapani.
Quick swabs: 1000 positives already identified
Across the island, at this time, about a thousand cases of Coronavirus positivity tracked through the use of so-called quick swabs, which have already been used for a few weeks. Sicily, thanks to its own acquisitions, was in fact one of the first Regions to equip itself with a supply of two million tests made available to the nine provincial health authorities and hospitals. In particular, quick swabs are already used for all contact tracing actions of the Usca (schools, investigation and monitoring of clusters, outbreaks in red zones, etc.) in international airports, in emergency rooms and in other departments and on board. use by emergency-urgency personnel.
It should be remembered that, according to the protocol, positive cases traced by rapid tests must then be confirmed by molecular swab and only then inserted into the reports of the Higher Institute of Health for the usual national daily bulletin. Quick swabs, to date, in fact, are not counted in the report published daily by the Ministry of Health, if they are not validated by the molecular test.
