Coronavirus, the update of infections in Palermo and Sicily on October 16, 2020

Coronavirus infections in Sicily increase exponentially: there are 578 positive people detected today by the bulletin published by the Ministry of Health that reports more than 7,709 swabs processed (7.5% of the percentage of positives) throughout the Sicilian territory as evidence contact tracing action initiated by the regional health system. But unfortunately there is a high number of victims: ten: the deaths occurred 4 in Palermo, 3 in Trapani, 1 in Catania, 1 in Syracuse and 1 in Caltanissetta (the Region has not provided further details ed).

Compared to yesterday, however, there are only three more hospitalizations for Covid (471 in total), even accesses to intensive care see an increase: six more patients than yesterday (58 in total). Therefore, both ordinary hospitalizations and places occupied in intensive care continue to increase. The number of cured, 121, is significant.

But the virus is there and, at least in Palermo and Sicily, it circulates much more than last spring. So caution yes, anxiety and terror no.

With 173 new cases, Palermo is still the most affected province, then there is Catania with 154, Agrigento 76, Trapani 58, Messina 43, Caltanissetta 26, Syracuse 22, Ragusa 15, Enna 11.
