New coronavirus infections in Sicily remain stable, as has been the case for a few days: 1,461 cases have been identified in the last 24 hours compared to 8,151 swabs processed (17.9% positive in tests carried out). The hope is that the island has now reached the famous plateau (a term that we began to know last spring), and that therefore the contagion curve may begin to decline in a few days due to the new restrictions. Someone speculates that this could happen at the end of the month. We’ll see.

Unfortunately, there are still 36 deaths today. While on the hospital front there are no strong changes compared to yesterday: those hospitalized with symptoms go to 1,501 (+25), to which are added 224 patients in intensive care (+7). It is noteworthy that it is not a secondary detail, that 467 were also recovered. The total of current positives is close to 30,000 (29,765), of these 28,040 in home isolation.

Palermo is today – according to the Ministry of Health bulletin – the province of the island where the most infections are registered: 445. Then there is Catania 328, Ragusa 218, Trapani 127, Messina 110, Syracuse 79, Caltanissetta 79, Enna: 49 and Agrigento 26.

Covid case, close the velodrome

The ‘Paolo Borsellino’ velodrome in Palermo closed due to the positivity of a municipal employee for the coronavirus. The offices of the sports facility, explains the City Council in a note, will be closed from tomorrow “and until further notice.”

In Sicily, specialized services provided in facilities that are not directly involved in the pandemic emergency.

“The remodeling of the specialized departments carried out in some Sicilian hospitals to meet the subsequent needs to combat the pandemic does not result in the suppression or limitation of services. It should be clarified, in fact, that these care functions requested by citizens in any case are already provided in homologous hospitals not directly involved in the Covid-19 emergency and previously activated by the regional health department precisely to guarantee continuity of care and access to care. ”This was specified by the Strategic Planning Department of the Regional Health Department.

“This clarification – continues the DPS – was made necessary as a result of a state of concern among citizens generated, in all probability, by a misunderstood interpretation of inaccurate information regarding the right to treatment for all non-Covid diseases. Finally, let us remember that Sicily is currently among the regions that maintain ordinary and non-urgent health activities other than the treatment of Coronavirus ”.
