The Food and Drug Administration, the US drug agency, has given the green light to the first DIY Coronavirus test developed and sold by the Californian company Lucira Health. It is the first licensed test in the United States that allows you to bypass an intermediary for positivity verification, even if the test can only be purchased at the pharmacy with a prescription. The Lacira LAMP test is based on principles similar to swabs, according to the New York Times, using the method of amplification of the reaction mediated by a continuous cycle, which copies the genetic material until it reaches detectable levels.

Until now a method considered fast, but less precise than what happens with tampons. According to the indications of the product, which according to the American newspaper should not cost more than fifty dollars, the test was able to accurately detect the 94% of positive cases and 98% of negatives. However, the data came from a small study conducted by the company on a sample of less than 100 people.
