Two powerful antibodies discovered at the Sacco Hospital in Milan could be produced for the treatment of Covid-19 if they are confirmed to be capable of blocking the virus: confirmation came from the head of the hospital’s infectious diseases department, Massimo Galli, in an interview with La Stampa.
“Two antibodies derived from so many donors have been isolated,” explained Galli, “there are at least two others in the world, but these are two more and given their therapeutic potential they could be reproduced on a large scale.”
For the infectious disease specialist, it is difficult to predict whether antibodies or vaccines will come first: “For both, the saying applies: data first, data second. If the antibodies worked, they would be an evolution of plasma therapy because they would use the active ingredient as a cure. The vaccine would be preventive and prevention is always better than cure ”. As for the arrival of seasonal flu, for Galli “it is a big problem, you have to be careful and increase the smear capacity.”
