The Region prepares for a possible second wave of coronavirus in Sicily. The Councilor for Health, Ruggero Razza, launched an emergency plan to equip the island’s hospitals with crisis management.
The map, illustrated by Fabio Geraci in the Journal of Sicily today, offers 158 intensive care places; 83 for intensive diving – in which assisted ventilation is practiced through helmets or machines without invasive techniques – and another 604 beds for hospitalization in infectious disease wards which will be distributed in five basins (Caltanissetta-Agrigento; Enna-Catania; Messina; Palermo-Trapani and Ragusa-Siracusa) to guarantee uniform assistance throughout the territory.
In some areas the number has practically doubled as in Enna, which has gone from twelve pre-virus stations to 28 while in Palermo this figure has grown even more thanks to the increase generated by the forty beds made available by Ismett.
