Coronavirus, the reconstruction of the chains of infections in the province of Reggio Calabria leads to some weddings with hundreds of guests between the end of September and the first half of October: this is how the pandemic broke out in the Reggio area

The fact is that the epidemiological situation in recent weeks has worsened particularly significantly throughout the Reggio area. We are talking about still very limited numbers, among the lowest in all of Italy and Europe, but we still have 1,100 positive people in the province of Reggio Calabria, from a resident population of 556 thousand inhabitants. Fortunately, the vast majority of cases are completely asymptomatic: we have only 47 hospitalized, of which only 4 in intensive care. But again there are victims, although they are always elderly and with serious previous pathologies, in any case they are from the people who fail the affection of children and grandchildren, e to which the contagion of Covid-19 gave the final blow. Without the Coronavirus they would still be alive. Old. Contusion. But with bright eyes and a wise smile.
The first marriage that acted as a “cluster” of contagion was that of a month ago in Sinopoli: it was at the end of September, 400 guests. There was also a victim, an old man who had been seriously ill for some time, infected at home by relatives. Now the situation is returning, the positives are healing (already 25 “negativized” in Sinopoli and 7 in Sant’Eufemia), and today in Sant’Eufemia the school has also reopened for cleaning and sanitation activities with a view to the return of the elementary and high school students, scheduled for next week. There are no more new positives despite the many swabs processed and the Region will order the end of the “Red zone“.
But in other municipalities of the province the situation worsens in a similar way to what happened in the pre-promontanos countries a month ago. And all the most delicate situations are related to clandestine marriages. A Mammola last week there was one with even 500 guests, divided between several restaurants to respect the rules and not disturb anyone.

It should be remembered that at all weddings, even summer ones, the buffet ban, of the group photo, of the cutting the cake shared with the guests (only the couple could cut it without sharing the moment with the guests), and there were important limitations also for dancing. On the other hand, on many occasions all these rules have not been respected and marriages have proven to be the main vehicle of infection.
Attention, not only on the premises. But also and especially in churches, which today remain inexplicably open to the closure of many economic activities, in which many more people have gathered to wish the bride and groom even if they were not invited to the party: we are talking about gatherings with hundreds and hundreds of people agglomerated by kissing the new husband and wife, despite the most basic rules of distancing and hygiene absolutely necessary at such a delicate moment to live with such a dangerous pandemic.
It should also be remembered that throughout the summer (June, July, August, the first part of September) the weddings took place in an “uncontrolled” way, as if nothing had happened. And the contagion was still zero. Obviously, the temperate and sunny climate did not favor the contagion, while now in the coldest season and with fewer hours of sun it is easier to come into contact with the pathogen. A link, between weather conditions and the pandemic, amply demonstrated by numerous scientific studies.
On the basis of the data currently available according to official communications from mayors or other local authorities, this is the distribution of positive cases verified in the provincial territory of Reggio.
