Although the debate on whether or not to smear asymptomatic people does not stop, after the proposal of the Regions to focus on those with symptoms to relaunch the tracking machine flooded by the increase in Covid infections, it is appropriate to take stock of the quarantine rules. To help us in this regard, there is a circular of October 12 from the Ministry of Health. By identifying four types of subjects, the document provides guidance on relative quarantine and on the appropriateness of molecular swabbing. Here are the ministerial directions.
Positive asymptomatic cases
Asymptomatic people who have tested positive can return to the community after a period of isolation of at least ten days from the onset of positivity, at the end of which a negative molecular test is performed.
Asymptomatic close contacts
Close contacts of Covid cases confirmed and identified by health authorities should observe: a quarantine period of 14 days from the last exposure to the case or a quarantine period of ten days from the last exposure with negative antigen or molecular test performed on Tenth day.
Positive symptomatic cases
Symptomatic people who have tested positive for the virus can return to the community after a period of isolation of at least ten days from the onset of symptoms (without considering anosmia and ageusia / dysgeusia that may persist for a long time) accompanied of a negative molecular test performed after at least three days without symptoms.
Long-term positive cases
People who, although they no longer have symptoms, continue to test positive in the molecular test for Sars-CoV-2, in case of absence of symptoms for at least one week, can stop isolation after 21 days from the onset of symptoms . This criterion can be modulated by health authorities in agreement with clinical experts and microbiologists / virologists, taking into account the immunological status of the affected persons (in immunosuppressed patients the period of contagion can be prolonged).
