Coronavirus, school: 0.021 infected students. “No impact on the general situation”

At the end of the meeting with the CTS and the ISS, the Minister of Education, Lucía Azzolina, announced the situation of the spread of the infection in schools. There are 1,492 positive students, the infected teaching staff is 349 positive, there are 116 positive cases among non-teaching staff: for students the percentage is 0.021%.

The data is deduced based on the percentages of contagion in schools announced by the Minister of Education Lucía Azzolina at the end of the meeting with the CTS and the ISS. “From the first evaluations carried out, it is clear that, to date, the school has not had any impact on the increase in general infections, if not in a very residual way,” Azzolina commented at the end of a discussion with the Higher Institute of Health and with the Technical-Scientific Committee in which an initial evaluation was carried out on the reopening of schools.

“We remain very cautious but, for the moment, the data is positive and this is obviously comforting for everyone,” said the minister. According to the data collected, in fact, in the first two weeks of classes, from September 14 to 26, the infected teachers are 0.047% of the total (349 cases of positivity), we are talking about 0.059% (116 cases) for the non-teaching personnel, for students the percentage is 0.021% (1,492 cases).

“As the experts also pointed out, infections in schools, at this stage, are sporadic cases and, for the most part, contracts outside the school – emphasizes the minister – the school system has started safely and is holding out because it is equipped, with great sacrifice of those who work or study there every day, and of the families. But the conviction of all, even in the meeting this afternoon, is that much more prudence is needed in all phases and extracurricular activities ”.
