A few hours earlier, the ASL had made public the record number of infected people in Livorno, never so high since the beginning of the Covid emergency, on the night of Saturday 17 in Venice a wild party and meetings are organized everywhere.
LIVORNO. A score of smoke bombs were suddenly lit on the scales of Refugio, in the district of Venice. Around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday 17, during the period in which the government closes the premises at midnight to follow the anti-contagion lines and invites people to respect the rules to stop the spread of Covid-19 (and precisely the day in which in Livorno there is a registry of infected people since the beginning of the emergency), an improvised party is organized in the heart of the city.
THE MADNESS ON THE STAIRS
It looks like a typical soccer carousel, but it is not yet clear what was the reason for the crazy minutes at the Scali del Refugio. Ten minutes in which a group of 50-60 boys started dancing, singing and jumping together. Before the arrival of the police, en masse, they quickly sent all the participants to the “spontaneous party.”
In addition, the nocturnal “movement” of Venice was marked by gatherings that at one point practically blocked Via Borra. Not to mention that most of the youngsters were without an anti-contagion mask. Then it was a rain around midnight to disperse the crowd of girls and boys.
THE PROBLEM
A similar situation had already occurred on Friday. The problem is not the closing time of the pubs. Rather. In pubs, now, you sit at a distance. The scene changes when the place closes. And young people, who do not feel like putting on their sheets at midnight, flock to the streets. And so small groups are born, hugs to joke, speeches in a low voice in the ear, despite the anti-contagion distancing. Bottom line: if the government’s goal is to reduce nightlife by shutting down the venue, the experiment seems to be heading for failure fast. At least in Livorno.
We interviewed some entrepreneurs from Livorno. Pub and restaurant owners, who have expressed all their concern about the new tightening of the closures imposed by the government. Because a pub that is open until midnight works – business owners of this type have told us – up to 80% less than the normal regime. But you have to keep the lights on, pay the staff like it was an evening like any other. The costs are the same, therefore, while the collection is practically nil. In all this, where is the fight against the virus? According to the images that many of our readers have sent us, to defeat Covid it is not enough to anticipate the closings of the pubs. There is even a doubt that it is not even necessary. The certainty is that thousands of young people every night in Livorno, especially on weekends, meet and stay together. Whenever they can do it, they do it inside the premises, sitting down. After midnight they are on the street, without distance and in many cases without a mask. The controls are there, but they are not enough. There is only one thing to do, which will surely be effective. Strive to comply with the rules. To prevent others from arriving, perhaps even more unpleasant
