Coronavirus, March one step from the yellow but the outbreak in a hospital now shakes the Region

ANCONA – In the countdown that should bring to the Marches yellow zone after two weeks of forgetting orange, the last outbreak starts directly COVID-19 that threatens to make the region reach the goal by breaking the cap. The alert this time went off in Fano, the former red zone of the first pandemic – right inside the Santa Cruz, Covid-free hospital of the Marche Nord company: 24 positive hospitalized patients (asymptomatic) and 12 cases among healthcare personnel.

A delicate situation and kept under strict control by the Councilor for Health, Filippo Saltamartini, also yesterday during the regional council devoted mainly to the budget: “We are managing the situation – he explained – and we hope that it is not reflected in intensive care.” The concern of the head of Health at Palazzo Raffaello travels in two ways: the first is, naturally, the hope that the conditions of infected patients -16 in Medicine and 8 in Gastroenterology- will remain stable or that they will not worsen to the point of having to resort to intubation.

The second track instead follows the path of the now famous 21 indicators that determine the jump from one band to another and where the pressure in hospitals and in resuscitation is part of those parameters considered fundamental. An example: last Friday the Marches, with a contagion index (Rt) equal to 0.93 in theory, could have already returned from orange to yellow, but the hospital report still counted a significant number of hospitalizations for Covid and Minister Speranza . decided to wait another week.

Clearly, in these days of waiting where new hospitalizations have slowed at least in intensive care, the Santa Croce outbreak is an element that could worry experts in Rome. However, it should not affect the return to the yellow band of the Marches, since the analysis and the consequent decisions are made based on the data corresponding to the previous week: in this case until last Sunday. So much so that the slide towards the narrower meshes of the orange zone that took place in mid-November was the result of an Rt that jumped to 1.55 in the first week of the month, with the discovery of some outbreaks of Covid ( such as those in nursing homes). ). And the question returns to the starting point: does the region continue to advance towards the definition of the yellow area? “This is hope – answers councilor Saltamartini -. I think so. “Fingers are crossed, while also at the Fano hospital in these hours he reported that the outbreak is limited, allowing the hospital to continue with normal activity. Molecular swabs were repeated in all hospitalized patients, to a total of 193 tests: of these 24 patients were hospitalized, tested positive and all asymptomatic.

During the screening, Marche Nord hospital employees were also swabbed, resulting in positive molecular tests for only 9 operators, including a doctor and 8 healthcare workers. “Screening with rapid antigen tests has also been started on all personnel,” explains a note, “which at this time involved 350 employees and only 3 tested positive.”
