Covid infections in splash Italy and for the first time in almost six months, they once again break the threshold of 3,000 cases in a single day. The daily bulletin of the Ministry of Health confirms what Minister Roberto Speranza reiterated today: “the data say that the infection is growing and it is necessary to raise the threshold of care.” In fact, the figures say that the total number of infected -which includes those currently positive, victims and those cured or discharged- has reached 333,940, with an increase of 3,678 in the last 24 hours: from the 16 of April, in total confinement, which has not been registered such high numbers. It is true that 3,678 new cases have been identified with 125,314 swabs, the record since the beginning of the emergency and more than 25,000 more than yesterday (with a ratio between infected and swabs performed that is 2.93%, slightly increasing) ; but it is equally true that there was no increase of a thousand cases in a single day since the darkest period of the emergency. This last figure is also confirmed by the number of victims: 31 in the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 36,061.
This increase was last recorded at the end of June. “We still have numbers within the limits of normal management – underlines the commissioner for the emergency Domenico Arcuri – but we must prepare for the possibility that they grow.” In fact, all the other indicators contained in the bulletin are also increasing, reinforcing the trend towards a “slow and progressive” worsening of the epidemiological curve, now in its 10th consecutive week. Current positives have reached 62,576, 2,444 more than Tuesday. Of these, 3,782 are hospitalized in ordinary hospital wards, with an increase of 157 in the last 24 hours, 337 are in intensive care, an increase of 18 compared to yesterday, and 58,457 are in home isolation, that is, 2,267 more in a day.
Less evident, however, is the increase in those discharged or recovered: 1,204, which brings the total since the start of the emergency to 235,303. The last indication that comes from the numbers of the Ministry of Health – awaiting the weekly follow-up on Friday – is relative to the spread of the virus in the regions. And once again, the situation has not changed for a week, Campania is the region with the highest increase in cases, 544. There are also four other regions that have at least 300 new infected: Lombardy, with 520 cases, Veneto with 375 , Lazio with 357 and Tuscany with 300. ‘Strong’ figures also in Piedmont (+287), Sicily (213), Puglia (196) and Emilia Romagna (193) while no region, as unfortunately has been the case for days, is ‘covid free’.
