Seventy-three thousand businesses have closed and 17 thousand will not reopen. Between June and October, more than two thirds of Italian companies have had a reduction in turnover compared to that. The bulletin outlined by the Istat report on companies facing the new coronavirus is a heavy bulletin, in which more than one million companies were interviewed between October and November during the period from June to October.

The report shows that 68.9% of companies are fully operational despite the Covid health emergency, 23.9% are partially open and carry out their activity in limited conditions of spaces, hours and customer access. 7.2% is closed. Approximately 73,000 companies, representing 4% of employment, in fact declared that they were closed: 55,000 expect to reopen and 17,000 do not (1.7% of companies equal 0.9% of employees).

The reduction of turnover
Between June and October, more than two thirds of Italian companies (68.4% of the total) experienced reductions in turnover compared to the same period in 2019. 32.4% (with 21.1% of employees ) reported operational risks and sustainability of their business and 37.5% requested public support for liquidity and credit, obtaining it in 80% of the cases. For companies that reported a drop in collections, 45.6% had reductions between 10% and 50%, 13.6% over 50% and 9.2% less than 10%.
Sales decline, but intensity decreases
Compared to the two-month period March-April 2020, “a high incidence of companies with the value of sales in decline is confirmed (they were 70%), but the intensity is reduced: 41.4% of companies in fact had reported a turnover higher than 50% compared to the same months of 2019, 27.1% between 10 and 50% and 3% less than 10%. The figures, however, do not take into account the months of November and December, months in which there were closures of commercial and restaurant activities in some areas and time restrictions in others The incidence of cases of non-invoicing decreased (1.9% compared to 14.6% in March-April) while that the share of companies with stable turnover values increased (19.9% compared to 8.9% March-April) or increased (9.8% compared to 5%). In particular, 3.8% declared a increase of less than 10% and 6% above this threshold.
Territorial data: Trento and Veneto above, Lazio and Sicily below
In the territory, the proportion of companies with growing sales is higher than the national average in the autonomous province of Trento (17.5%), in Veneto (12.5%) and Abruzzo (12.3%). On the other hand, the proportion of companies that register a decrease in turnover of more than 50% is higher in Lazio (18.3%), Sicily (17.4%), Campania (17.3%) and Calabria (17 ,1%).
