ROME. The week that closes has registered a strong additional increase in Covid cases, raising the incidence in the last 14 days to 648 infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the period. An increase – underlines the ISS – spread throughout the country.

An alarm that applies to all Regions, in the vast majority of cases classified as high risk with a high probability of facing an aggravation of the situation. For this reason, the Istituto Superiore di Sanità reiterates that “a drastic reduction in physical interactions between people is necessary to alleviate the pressure on health services”. In other words, “it is essential that the population avoid all opportunities for contact with people outside their home that are not strictly necessary and that they stay at home as long as possible.”

As for hospitalizations and victims of the virus, the ISS confirms that the average age of deaths from Covid is 80 years, more than 30 years older than the average age of patients in general. Only 1.1% of the deceased were under 50 years of age.

Speaking of pathologies, the average of more than 3 pre-existing diseases for victims of the virus is also confirmed. In total, 174 patients (3.3% of the sample) had no pathologies, 682 (13.0%) had 1 pathology, 988 (18.9%) had 2 pathologies, and 3390 (64.8%) had 3 or more pathologies. In women the average number of observed pathologies is 3.7, in men 3.4.
