Coronavirus: India, third in the world for deaths, surpasses Mexico – Last Hour

(ANSA) – ROME, AUGUST 31 – India has surpassed Mexico in the number of deaths (in absolute terms) caused by the coronavirus and, with a global balance of 64,469 victims, now occupies third place in this sad world ranking after the United States and Brazil. This was reported by CNN, citing the country’s Health Ministry.

Yesterday India recorded another 971 deaths and 78,512 infections, bringing the total number of infections to 3,621,245, also in this case the third highest level in the world after the United States and Brazil. In addition, yesterday was the fifth consecutive day with more than 75,000 infections.

The situation is particularly difficult in New Delhi, where more than 2,000 infections were recorded yesterday, the highest level since July 10. So far, 41.4 million swabs have been made in the country.

To date, according to data from Johns Hopkins University, Mexico has 64,158 deaths out of a total of 595,841 cases.
