The new positive cases of coronavirus discovered in a single day in Tuscany are back, and well above five hundred. In the last twenty-four hours in our region, 575 new cases have been found (of which 196 only in the province of Florence).
The new increase in cases goes hand in hand with the increase in swabs performed. In fact, on Monday, October 12, with 8,958 smears performed, 466 positives were found; yesterday Tuesday 13, 8,172 swabs and 480 cases. Today net increase in tampons (11,033) and cases (575 in fact).
Thus, the cases of positivity of Coronavirus amount to 19,681 since the beginning of the epidemic, between dead and recovered. For days, however, the percentage of asymptomatic people out of the total number of cases is no longer included in the bulletin issued by the Region. Below is the detail of the data recorded in the last twenty-four hours, as disclosed by the Tuscany Region.
The new cases
New cases are 3% more than the total of the previous day. The average age of the 575 cases at present is approximately 42 years (19% are under 20, 27% between 20 and 39, 29% between 40 and 59, 21% between 60 and 79, 4% age 80 or older).
Those cured grew 0.6% and reached 11,071 (56.3% of all cases). The swabs performed reached 867,671, 11,033 more than yesterday. 7,405 subjects were tested (excluding control swabs), of which 7.8% were positive. The current positives are 7,427 today, + 7.4% compared to yesterday. There are 275 hospitalized patients (13 more than yesterday), of which 46 in intensive care (2 more). Today there are 2 new deaths: 2 men, with an average age of 81 years, in Pisa.
These are the data – verified at 12 noon today based on requests from the National Civil Protection – relative to the advance of the epidemic in the region.
It should be remembered that as of June 24, 2020, the Ministry of Health has modified the data collection system on the spread of Covid-19. Positive cases are no longer indicated according to the province of notification but according to the province of residence or domicile.
Cases divided by province
The following are the cases of positivity in the area with the change from yesterday. There are 5,541 cases in total to date in Florence (196 more than yesterday), 1,374 in Prato (44 more), 1,322 in Pistoia (36 more), 1,713 in Massa (19 more), 2,305 in Lucca (37 more), 2,432 in Pisa (85 more), 999 in Livorno (37 more), 1,797 in Arezzo (77 more), 924 in Siena (27 more), 724 in Grosseto (17 more). There are 550 positive cases reported in Tuscany, but residing in other regions. Therefore, the cases found today in the Central Local Health Authority are 276, 178 in the Northwest, 121 in the Southeast.
Tuscany is confirmed in tenth place in Italy in terms of number of cases (including residents and non-residents), with around 528 cases per 100,000 inhabitants (Italian average around 605 x 100,000, yesterday’s figure). The provinces with the highest notification rate are Massa Carrara with 879 cases x 100,000 inhabitants, Lucca with 594, Pisa with 580, Livorno with 298 the lowest.
New outbreak in a RSA in Florence
In total, 7,152 people are isolated at home, since they present mild symptoms that do not require hospital care or do not present symptoms (497 more than yesterday, 7.5% more). There are 15,616 (1,132 more than yesterday, plus 7.8%) people, also isolated, under active surveillance, for having had contact with infected people (Asl Centro 5,452, Northwest 6,468, Southeast 3,696).
The people hospitalized in the beds dedicated to Covid patients today are a total of 275 (13 more than yesterday, plus 5%), 46 in intensive care (2 more than yesterday, plus 4.5%).
In total there are 11,071 people cured (63 more than yesterday, plus 0.6%): 430 people clinically cured (4 more than yesterday, plus 0.9%), that is, they were asymptomatic after presenting clinical manifestations associated with Infection and 10,641 (59 more than yesterday, plus 0.6%) declared cured in all aspects, the so-called viral cures, with double negative swab.
Today there are 2 new deaths: 2 men, with an average age of 81 years. As for the province of residence, the deceased are in Pisa. 1,183 have died since the beginning of the epidemic as follows: 428 in Florence, 54 in Prato, 84 in Pistoia, 182 in Massa Carrara, 149 in Lucca, 99 in Pisa, 65 in Livorno, 54 in Arezzo, 33 in Siena , 26 in Grosseto, 9 people died on Tuscan soil but they were residents outside the region.

Tuscany’s crude death rate (number of deaths / resident population) for Covid-19 is 31.7 x 100,000 residents versus 60.1 x 100,000 for the Italian average (11th region). Regarding the provinces, the highest mortality rate is found in Massa Carrara (93.4 x100,000), Florence (42.3 x100,000) and Lucca (38.4 x100,000), the lowest in Grosseto (11.7 x 100,000).
