“Enough”, “No to restrictions”, “Then no”, “Our districts are not ghettos.” These are some of the phrases that can be read on the posters of the hundreds of people who protested today in Madrid against the new anti-Covid measures taken by the government. It is not about confinements, but something similar, because as of Monday, September 21, in Madrid, more than one in ten inhabitants will be able to leave their home “only due to force majeure.” And so several hundred citizens of citizens gathered to protest in the streets and in front of the regional parliament against the new restrictions on mobility. There were no shortage of attacks on Isabel Díaz Ayuso who decided on the restrictions (a sign reads “Ayuso, the virus is you”). In images from the event, everyone appears to be wearing a mask. The measures, which will come into force tomorrow for two weeks, affect 850,000 people, 13% of the 6.6 million inhabitants of the capital and its interior. The decision was necessary due to the increase in cases registered in the country. And yesterday there was a demonstration by the deniers against the restrictive measures in London. In France, the situation seems to have improved somewhat in the last 24 hours: here 10,569 new cases were recorded in one day, a sharp decline compared to the previous day when there were 2,929 more. The test’s positivity rate continues to rise, standing at 5.7%, down from 5.6% yesterday.

Limited circulation

Specifically, circulation will be limited in six districts of the capital and in six upper cities of the Community of Madrid, where more than a thousand infections have been registered for 100 thousand inhabitants. So you can leave home only for very specific reasons, including work and school, health, and legal reasons. All stores, commercial or open to the public, must close at 10 pm, with the exception, for example, of pharmacies and medical offices, gas stations and veterinarians. The restaurants and hotels will operate at fifty percent, while the tables must respect a minimum distance of one and a half meters from each other. No more than six people can sit at the same table at the same time.

The rules

In places of worship, attendance cannot exceed one third of the capacity and the minimum interpersonal distance of 1.5 meters and the use of a mask must be guaranteed. Limits also for participation in funeral ceremonies, which cannot exceed 15 participants. As for sports, it can be practiced both outdoors and indoors, as long as fifty percent of the maximum allowed capacity of the facility is not exceeded. Om group, no more than six people can participate in sports activity. Suspension of attendance at parks, public gardens and play areas.

The controls

On the ground, two hundred police officers in Madrid will carry out about sixty random checks to verify compliance with current regulations to limit the spread of the coronavirus and the mobility restrictions introduced by the Spanish government. This was announced by the Minister of Justice of the Community of Madrid, Enrique López, specifying that “information” checks will be carried out in the first 48 hours.
