Milan, October 11, 2020 – Coronavirus, the contagion curve continues to rise, but much more slowly. Yesterday the increase was 352 cases (compared to 914 on Friday, 740 on Thursday and 1,001 on Wednesday) from 5,372 to 5,724. Deaths are 29 (24 hours before, 28), intensive care, now 380, increases by only 3 (+ 0.8%, the day before yesterday +29), hospitalized patients with symptoms increase by 250 (Friday +161) up to 4,336 (+ 6.1%), there are 65,637 people in home isolation, 3,968 more. Only in the next few days will we understand whether it is a temporary deceleration of the curve before a new acceleration, or the approach of the peak.
me Lombadia do your part: are more than tripled positives in less than a week intercepted daily. Our region has touched the 1,140 new cases, discovered by processing 22,910 swabs. Only last Tuesday the new positives in Lombardy were 350 (but of 16,020 swabs), the day after 520 with 21,569 tests, on Thursday 683 of 22,069 swabs, on Friday 983 of 25,623 tests: in four days the relationship between controls and cases of coronavirus is more than doubled, from 2.1 to 4.9 percent. The situation in Milan is no different, that on Tuesday had 153 new positives throughout the province of which 81 in the city, on Thursday it had almost doubled to 282 of which 133 in the capital, on Friday it exceeded 500 of which more than half (258) in the city and yesterday, finally, it jumped to 587 cases in twenty-four hours, of which 312 only in the capital: double the cases registered throughout the metropolitan area just four days earlier.
In Monza and Brianza also increased (108 to 133), Lecco (10 to 40), Cremona (7 to 25), Brescia (45 to 57), Lodi, while Varese goes down from 107 to 91. Concern for Lombardy is also confirmed by the analysis of the relationship between new infections and tampons among those never tested: the region jumps from + 6% on Friday to + 8%, worse than the national average, which is a slight increase from + 6.9% to 7.15%. Lombardy almost doubles Campania, second in new cases, which falls from +769 on Friday to +664 (-105) and has an infected / newly tested rate of 9.8% to 8.05%: almost 2 points but what opposite of Lombardy.
A daily increase of this magnitude had not been seen since mid-April, when there were more than twelve thousand Covid patients in hospitals and more than a thousand in intensive care, and every day more than two hundred people in Lombardy died of causes attributable to the new coronavirus. Yesterday in intensive care there were 44 Lombard (as the day before), in the Covid pavilions there were another 408 (37 more than on Friday) and two of the 29 counted in Italy died. New infections, unlike what happened in the April Lombardy outbreak, were a fifth of the national total. In short, the number of infections is similar but the situation is very different from six months ago, when the regional health system overwhelmed by the pandemic could only put serious symptoms to the test.
