In 2020, 16,617 deaths were recorded in Friuli Venezia Giulia, 2,299 more than last year (+ 16.1%) and 2,177 more than the average for the period 2015-2019 (+ 15.1%), due to Covid. This was announced today by the Ires Fvg researcher, Alessandro Russo, who has reworked the data published by Istat. “Although they are still provisional – said Russo – these data allow us to observe the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on mortality at the national and local level.” The largest increases compared to the previous year, reported Ires Fvg, are registered in correspondence with the first wave of the pandemic, in March + 25.4% and in April + 27.8%, and especially in the last part of the year: November registered a variation equal to + 61.6%, December + 68.3%. In fact, it can be remembered that, according to data published by Civil Protection, the deaths officially attributed to Covid-19 in Friuli Venezia Giulia were 1,642 between March and December 2020, of which more than 75% were registered in the last two months of the year (1,245 of 1,642). Furthermore, in the first three months of 2021, deaths related to the pandemic in our region were almost equivalent to those registered in all of 2020.
