REGGIO EMILIA – The Ausl reports that, after an epidemiological investigation, five cases of Covid positivity have been found in students belonging to a single-family outbreak. Students attend the “M. Carrara ”of Novellara, the Integral Institute of Reggiolo and the State Technical Institute“ L. Einaudi ”of Correggio.

The family, of Pakistani origin, resides in Reggiolo. When the father tested positive for Covid, the controls were started that found the mother and the six children of the couple who are between 9 and 18 years positive. Isolated, waiting for a swab, there are four classes, or about a hundred people between students and teachers.

The older girl does not attend any institute, but is enrolled in driving school; the other five siblings, a fourth grade boy, a sixth grade girl, another 15 year old and two 16 year old twins, attended three different schools: the institute that included Reggiolo, the two youngest, the oldest the “Carrara” ”In Novellara and the“ Einaudi ”institute in Correggio.

The cases were immediately placed in home isolation. The schools have implemented the procedures established in the protocol, collaborating with the public health service of the USL company in providing information to the families of the affected students.

The teaching staff and students of the corresponding sections will be swabs and the return to school of the classes involved will be defined based on the results of the tests and the end of the investigation by the Public Hygiene Service.

The mayor of Reggiolo: the two boys attend fourth and sixth grade

Two cases of positivity for Covid-19 at the Institute, including Reggiolo, quickly triggered health checks in 45 students.

The two children with positive results, already subjected to home isolation, belong to the same family unit consisting of eight people and attend the fourth grade and the first grade of the comprehensive school in Reggio. After a positive swab from the father, the examination was extended to the entire family, which, although asymptomatic, was infected with the virus. The Ausl Public Hygiene provision immediately alerted the Municipality of Reggiolo and the school structure to find the contacts of the families of the students and companions of the infected and the teachers.

Already at 7 o’clock this morning, Mayor Roberto Angeli joined the school staff to alert and provide information to parents concerned about the possibility of spreading the virus. In the afternoon, at the Casa della Salute, a rubbing point was activated for all the children of the classes involved in addition to the teachers. After the diagnostic test, according to the procedure, any positive Covid case must strictly comply with the quarantine. Children who test negative may resume classes on Monday.

“It is normal – said Mayor Roberto Angeli – that there is a lot of concern among parents and relatives in these cases: asymptomatic subjects are difficult to identify. Despite this, the speed of intervention and detection of a possible outbreak always makes a difference and allows a better organization of services, even school services that until now have strictly respected the hygienic-sanitary regulations to contain the spread of the virus. Already today the personnel mobilized by the Ausl carried out the examinations guaranteeing the maximum possible information for the children and families involved. All this alerts us that the spread of Covid has not stopped, but the actions implemented protect the health of citizens as much as possible and are crucial for the future ”.
