Four hours of lessons were enough to identify the first case of positivity to the coronavirus, which resulted in preventive closures of the entire school even though the infection ran in the family.

This is a girl who attends a third of the Malignani technical institute in Cervignano: the student had appeared regularly in class last Wednesday, the first day she had to participate in remedial courses.

Four hours of class, then in the afternoon the discovery that the mother, having come into contact with a positive case, was also positive for the swab. The girl had immediately notified the Institute that she expected to be examined in shifts, and had agreed with the principal not to return to the classroom until the result, arrived late yesterday morning.

Oliviero Barbieri, dean of the institutes of the lower Friuli area, contacted the prevention department according to the procedure and agreed as a precaution to close the Malignani until Wednesday. Meanwhile, students will continue their recovery with distance education. The circular to the teachers speaks of a measure of “extreme caution”.

These days, in addition to ritual sanitation, the rest of the students in the class will be tested: the girl had come to school with a friend and then stayed longer with a classmate, but it was decided to spread the hyssop to everyone. classmates and the two teachers who gave lessons that morning. The institute informs us that in these three days all protocols have been respected: hygiene, masks, hand washing under the supervision of teachers and distance between desks, favored by the low attendance at remedial courses.

Meanwhile, the latest national data for the region speak of a growing transmissibility index, but also of an incidence in the population under control. The weekly report of the Istituto Superiore della Sanità draws a picture of the situation of care of Friuli Venezia Giulia.

For the week under review, the last of August, the Rt index, which should be below 1, is the highest in Italy after the “off scale” index in Sardinia. In the Region it is equal to the national average, 1.18, but this data is taken with a grain of salt by the epidemiologists of the working group for two reasons: the first is that it is an estimate with a very wide range, among the comforting 0.67. and a 1.84 that would be really worrisome.

The second is that starting from low numbers, it is normal that at a mathematical level there are considerable changes between one week and another: “It seems more useful at this time to look at the impact on the number of inhabitants,” say the experts of the working group. Opinion in which the ISS also agrees.

And in these figures, Friuli Venezia Giulia compared to the rest of Italy is in better conditions: 10.07 cases in the last week per 100 thousand inhabitants, compared to more than 12 of the national average; and counting the last two weeks analyzed, that is, after mid-August, they are 21.55 against 35 in Veneto and 23.68 of the Italian average.

For the Higher Institute of Health, the outlook is progressively worsening although it is better than in the rest of Europe, thanks to the widespread compliance with preventive measures and the quarantine recommended by the health authorities. “We need to keep the response from local services high,” the report concludes.
