One of the steps of new ordinance Against Coronavirus Infection, signed by Governor Nello Musumeci, states that, as of Thursday, those arriving from abroad to Sicily must be subjected to hyssop. For flights arriving from outside Italy there should be no problems, but it will be more difficult to identify foreigners who will arrive in Sicily with a previous stopover, perhaps in Rome or Milan. Not to mention the residents who have been abroad. For example, will they first be screened at the Fiumicino or Malpensa airports? Theoretically yes, but it is not safe. So what will happen is still not entirely clear. But you can start thinking in numbers.
Meanwhile, only in Palermo, around 1500 checks per day are expected (against the current 300). In fact, 364 flights from abroad are scheduled for October for a total of about 42,000 passengers, who will arrive with an average of 13 daily flights. And in Catania the situation and the numbers are similar, perhaps a little higher. Adding up the tourists from the Trapani and Comiso airports, and obviously those who arrive by means other than the plane, it can be safely said that, in October alone, more than 100,000 foreigners are expected to arrive in Sicily. And therefore so many checks. Considering that in 7 months 470 thousand swabs were made, making more than 100 thousand only for those who come from abroad, it will not be a walk in the park.
In accordance with the provisions of the ordinance, anyone who enters the territory of the Region from EU states or outside the EU is obliged to register on the website www.siciliacoronavirus.it, or communicate their presence to the service of health of the Region. “Citizens residing in Sicily will comply with this obligation by registering on the site or immediately informing their GP or pediatrician – reads the document -. Those who have returned to Sicily within seven days must also comply with the rules” . prior to the publication of the ordinance. The territorially competent provincial health authorities foresee the signing of a Protocol with the airport managers, the port authorities, the transport managers, in agreement with the regional infrastructure and mobility department, to subject subjects from foreign countries to the so-called rapid swabbing or others diagnostic research means, validated by the Higher Institute of Health ”.
