Lombardy was the first to request it: a curfew from 21 to 5, a total blocking of activities to try to contain the second wave of coronavirus, which day by day makes the positive curve grow. In Liguria, the President of the Region, Giovanni Toti, and the Mayor of Genoa Marco Bucci have not yet explicitly pronounced the word “curfew”, but this afternoon will be a decisive meeting to understand what new restrictive measures to adopt in the capital of Liguria, in particular to stop the contagion.
“With the data from Alisa and the prevention offices in hand, and analyzing that of the Municipality of Genoa on the movement of people, we will identify the areas in which it will be necessary to carry out closures – said Toti on Monday night – giving all the support possible to the Municipality, obviously comparing us with the Prefect. Similar arguments refer to the municipalities of La Spezia, Savona and Imperia ”.
Mayor Marco Bucci, for his part, added that currently in the hands of the Municipality and Alisa there are two maps: one that identifies the areas where the virus circulates the most (historic center, Cornigliano, Rivarolo and Sampierdarena are those through which Se has issued a specific first ordinance, but the positives also increase in other neighborhoods) and one that indicates the areas where meetings are most likely to be held. The two maps, superimposed, will give a precise indication – explained the mayor – of those areas in which ad hoc ordinances are likely to be adopted. And here the word “curfew” could be said.
The hypothesis, in fact, is that localized closures can be established after 9 pm – as is established in Lombardy at a general level – to prevent concentrations from being created during the night, with fewer controls. A hypothesis that would inevitably have a very strong impact on the catering sector in particular: today the new dpcm allows openings until midnight for restaurants, bars and nightclubs that have seats and can guarantee consumption while sitting at the table, leaving something of breathing space for the owners. If the closure of 9pm were applied, for example, to the historic center, dozens of commercial operators would be forced to lower the blinds without alternatives.
The eyes are also focused on the weekend: the one that just passed registered a record of fines especially by the Local Police, which exceeded 100 outstanding penalties, and Bucci anticipated that an ad hoc plan is being worked on precisely to that end. week. At the same time, the mayor mentioned a public transportation plan that will allow high school students to enter after 9 o’clock and staggered, as established by the dpcm, but the priority of the meeting in the prefecture of the committee for order and safety today remains for thinking about possible new restrictive measures and curfews.
Coronavirus, the situation in hospitals
In the health field, meanwhile, work is being done on the expansion of beds especially for low and medium intensity care, and it is for those covid-positive patients who need medical assistance and follow-up but who should not be hospitalized in intensive care. Monday was a field day, with the emergency services attacked especially by people with symptoms attributable to the coronavirus, and outside the city hospitals all the tents for covid triage have been set up again. The Padre Antero Micone hospital in Sestri Ponente and the Evangelico in Voltri have been reactivated with this in mind, and within a week they will be ready to receive only covid patients.

“At the end of the week – Toti said – we will activate 50 additional places in medium and low intensity structures in Genoa to guarantee rotation in hospitals. By the end of the month we will be activating about 200. This week begins with a lot of pressure on our hospitals. We did not expect anything different. The regional health system is adapting its offer to the needs of containing the epidemic. Of the total number of infections, most affect the city of Genoa. We are witnessing a general increase in our region, with less circulation outside the capital. The number of hospitalized patients is also growing, and intensive care is stable and even decreasing. The phenomenon is what we have already described in recent days: there is a high influx of patients in our hospitals, but the number of intensive care units is still decidedly lower in proportion to the number of hospitalized patients than last spring.
