“Nobody expected a pandemic shortly after our graduation,” confesses the 26-year-old. Lara de blasi, doctor Uscar. the Special continuity care units of the Lazio region they are the front line in the fight against Covid-19. Currently they work approx. 800 toilets. Three hundred are doctors and most of them very young. “Those under 35 are 80%,” he explains. Alessandro Falcione, 26 years and general medicine course to complete. “But there are also recent graduates, postgraduates and even medical guards,” he continues from the headquarters of the units: the INMI Spallanzani hospice in Rome.
The service was born during the first wave of the epidemic: “In the field, we went with the caravan in the red zones. The service has been liked and has been institutionalized ”, explains Dr. Falcione, one of the first to join the project. Today the units are made up of health teams of at least one doctor and one nurse and are managed by the Institute for Infectious Diseases. The Uscar have the task of intervening in emergency situations, to carry out the shealth surveillance of the assisted population, even in those residential, social, health and social welfare structures in which an outbreak of contagion has occurred.
And as often happens, what is planned in war becomes a new tool in peacetime: “We are trying to build a model that can later be proposed again as an integration between hospital and territory,” Falcione specifies. “There is precisely the idea of building something that also serves to fill the gaps in territorial assistance.” Not even the recent ruling of the Tar has interrupted the work of the teams. The Court had expressed against the obligation of home care of family doctors. “Home care with common sense must necessarily be part of the regional health service,” says the doctor. Marta Branca, CEO of INMI Spallanzani. And he adds: “The Uscar are made up of doctors and nurses who have voluntarily adhered to the hiring notice and have no problem in going to patients.”

we need you.
In these weeks of pandemic, journalists, if we do our work conscientiously, we carry out a public service. Also for this reason, every day here at ilfattoquotidiano.it we are proud to offer hundreds of new content for free to all citizens: news, exclusive insights, expert interviews, surveys, videos and much more. All this work, however, comes at great financial cost. Advertising, at a time when the economy is stagnant, offers limited income. Not in line with the access boom. That is why I ask those who read these lines to support us. Give us a minimum contribution, equal to the price of a cappuccino per week, which is essential for our work.
