Deaths at work: the categories most involved

Analysis of Covid-19 deaths contracted in the workplace reveals that around a third of fatal cases refer to health and social assistance personnel, based on sanitary technicians, with the 10.3% of deaths, followed by medici (7.5%), operators health and social assistance (5.6%), social workers and unskilled personnel of the health services (3.6% for both categories), and specialists in life sciences, such as toxicologists and pharmacologists (2.4%).

With 39.7% of reported infections, more than 83% of which correspond to nurses, the professional category of health technicians is confirmed as the most affected by the virus, followed by social and health workers (20, 9%), by doctors (10.2%), social workers (8.9%) and unqualified personnel of the health services, such as assistants, porters and orderlies (4.8%), administrative employees (3.1 %), by cleaning service workers (1.9%) and sanitary managers (1.0%).

The other categories involved are those of administrative employees (11.5% of deaths), of trucking workers (6.3%), of sales people (2.8%), of employees in the restaurant business., of the service personnel of security, surveillance and custody and of directors, executives and equivalents of the public administration and in the health, education and research services (all with 2.4% of fatal cases reported).

considering the productive activities – Inail still points out in its report – 71.2% of reported infections and 23.3% of fatal cases are concentrated in Health and social assistance (which includes hospitals, residences for the elderly and the elderly, institutes, clinics, university polyclinics, residences for the elderly and disabled), which together with the sector of public health organizations (Asl) raises the proportion of infections to 80.2% and 34 , 0% of the deaths occurred in the health sector.
