In just 24 hours, one death every 60 minutes. Intensive care, 42 people intubated. Usl 2: “Very hard moment”
TREVISO. One breath away from the seven hundred dead. Yesterday, the Treviso area reached another intolerable record: 26 victims in just 24 hours, never that many. One every 60 minutes, rounded down. A figure that leaves you breathless, because they are not just numbers in the general accounting of the pandemic. They are affected, shattered families that will not be able to celebrate Christmas, lost goodbyes, hope and popular wisdom devastated by the virus.
the tragic bulletin
The province of Treviso continues to grapple with the suffering, mourning and memory of those killed by Covid: an incalculable loss. The emergency bulletin lets us know that we have reached 698 victims from February to today and highlights the resurgence of the coronavirus in this second wave, with the month of December registering peaks of more than 20 deaths for four days.
Ten of the last 26 deaths, specified Azienda Zero, are the result of previous data realignment. “At the hospital level, we have registered nine deaths of people between 84 and 91 years old,” says the Local Health Authority 2. Another seven people have died in a nursing home. Beyond the opportune moment, the numbers remain impressive.
THE RISE OF THE CURVE
Our resistance in the yellow zone addresses the necessary need to make the economy work, but struggles to get along with health. “We are in a very difficult moment, the entire staff is giving everything but we are facing a beastly virus”, adds Francesco Benazzi, general director of USL 2 of the Trevigiana Brand, appealing once again to the sense of responsibility of all citizens respecting the rules of the mask and spacing. Some doctors have gone further, proposing a self-lock for Christmas, but the situation is getting worse.
the positives
Yesterday, 1,077 other people in Treviso tested positive for the swab and found they had contracted the infection. The contagion curve in the province of Treviso rises. “The plateau phase continues to persist, until it calms down and we have to resist,” adds the director general of the Local Health Authority 2. The local health authority also specifies that “there have been some computer adjustments so that 150 new positive compared to the previous day ».
ALERT IN INTENSIVE CARE
In the contagion equation, the more the virus reaches shore, the more people get sick and the more pressure increases on hospitals. In recent days, the occupancy rate of the Covid beds in the rooms seemed to have stabilized, yesterday the cold shower. Another 45 people were hospitalized for respiratory complications, bringing the number of patients to 451 (compared to 407 on Friday).
The increase is noticeable in non-critical wards: from 369 to 410 admitted patients (41 more in 24 hours). However, Intensive Therapies where the threshold of 40 occupied beds has been exceeded are special observations: there are currently 42 intubated patients (4 more than the previous day). It seems a trivial figure, but it is not if one takes into account that for each patient in intensive care, assistance from a specialist is needed day and night, at least 3 nurses, and up to 100 liters of oxygen per minute to ensure breathing. “Hospital activity is intense but we are guaranteeing it thanks to the commitment of all our collaborators” comments number one in Treviso Health Care “ICUs usually range between 38 and 40 Covid patients, now we have risen slightly, but they are expected in the next few hours of his resignation which will make the figure return to the “norm” ».
TREVISO COMPARED WITH VENETO
The bulletin issued by the Veneto Region confirms that Treviso is the second province of Veneto by the number of positivity found in almost ten months: 36,213, ahead of us only Verona out of a total of 188,432 positivity detected regionally. The number of Treviso citizens who have managed to overcome the virus and are now “negative” amounts to 20,430 out of a total of 94,351 recovered throughout Veneto. A positive aspect since it is the highest figure in the region.
