Seventeen elderly people died in just over two weeks, of the 42 who are housed in the facility. It is the heavy toll of the coronavirus on the Opera Pia Divina Provvidenza nursing home in via Borgo d’Ale in Borgomasino, which prompted relatives to file a complaint at the local carabinieri station.
The soldiers of the antisophist health unit (Nas) later went to the facility to acquire a series of documents and the Ivrea Prosecutor’s Office has opened a file at this time for facts related to the incident, without hypothesis of crime or under investigation.
The first death, of a hospitalized patient, occurred on November 17, 2020. The old woman, over ninety years old like almost all the deceased, had tested positive in the rapid test to diagnose the disease. The swabs then revealed positivity for 36 out of 42 guests, but there were also deaths among those who tested negative.
The nursing home had survived the first wave of coronavirus unscathed. This time, however, something did not work out, even if it is not certain that there are responsibilities.
