It is not exactly what one calls a good figure.
The news that Giuseppe Conte will not appear at the hearing scheduled for tomorrow for some time is surprising. It looks like an escape. Conte will have to testify in the incredible preliminary hearing against Matteo Salvini for the Gregoretti ship and let the judges know that if they want to hear him they must agree with him a date to go to Rome.
Which smells a lot like chaste. It is a prerogative of the prime minister, but for most it seems like a ploy to avoid answering uncomfortable questions. And a witness, unlike a defendant, has an obligation to tell the truth if they don’t want to risk being investigated.
Conte fears that his responsibilities will arise in handling the case of illegal immigration on board the Gregoretti. And for that it looks for the exit.
But anyway, sooner or later, he too will have to explain himself to a magistrate and partisan lawyers. That day will come along with the truth. Because in that preliminary hearing, not only the word of the prime minister will be valid.
