Concertone del Primo Maggio, a missed opportunity – La Stampa

I write it immediately, last night and a good number of Italians (2,264,000 viewers equivalent to a participation of 8.7%, approximately double last year) saw on television that it was not the May Day concert. What was seen last night was the umpteenth television performance by singers and songwriters in random order that were presented in front of the RaiTre cameras in various capacities. Beautiful? Ugly? Interesting? Boring? Could it be done better and worse? Questions that those who have been in front of the TV screen asked themselves over and over again at night. For once, we put aside the easy emotions of the excited “regulars” and that when it comes to Italian music or composers of different abilities, they get excited on social media as if they were watching the spectacle of life. I will say it right away: the RaiTre show on May 1 was, if it were not for an (imaginable) performance that those who do the show well, do it with art, a ray of war.

Vasco Rossi, along with colleagues like Gianna Nannini and Zucchero or Patti Smith and Sting are the stars who participated and brought prestige to this edition, even if, perhaps, the most beautiful news beyond the performances is that the Minister of Culture Dario Franceschini has announced that he intends to propose the inclusion in the April Decree of extraordinary rules that can use the Single Fund for Entertainment aimed at protecting professional figures who are at risk of exclusion from social security measures currently under study. Declaration registered in the agenda, we hope it will materialize. Returning to the show. The most moving moments? Tosca with “Bella Ciao”? I do not know, it is as if this good interpreter had become “magnificent” only when someone remembers inviting her to the foreground (it happened in San Remo) to sing, contrite, very sad whispers. Who knows if there will be those who remember her even when they are not spending on political / social causes and start attending concerts or buying records? Gianna Nannini, from the Terrazza Martini in Milan, showed how a good idea can be translated into an exceptional idea. Piano, which Gianna has started to study again and will be fundamental for her next performances, some other instruments and images that showed a wonderful Milan. Great Michielin moment from his Bassano del Grappa, Alex Britti, who closed the show from Piazza San Giovanni with a symbolic “Hey Joe” and, therefore, even stronger; on the guitar, Alex is virtuous and has a superfine technique, and these, in yesterday’s silence, were even more evident and very strong. Much of what I’ve seen and heard has been overcome, even boring, and as far as I’m concerned, the desire to change channels has been taken several times. I never liked the curtains during concerts, the fun inventions either, the comic digressions or worse pseudo-total. The Roman tour company did “the Roman tour company”, which they presented read with recited emotion texts of avoidable heaviness, the contributions of the unions were there, but nobody (even the ones mentioned above, the fans actually in Italy tour cut) were waiting for their end.

So here we are again at the beginning of the question: was it bad? It was beautiful? It was a very long television program, with some ups and downs that two months after the start of the blockade that you see because you can no longer support Netflix, Amazon Prime and Disney + have reached the suppuration but cause the exclamation: A few days ago I have not seen that They sang from their home, in front of the library, in front of their mobile phone camera, in one of the direct kilometers of Instagram that they can no longer bear. Yes, they are the same. We go to sleep hoping that everything will return to normal and that the Concertone will return to the Concertone, that the squares can be filled with sweat and defeated hands. Go to sleep waiting for a normality that we long for to the point of making us look at all these “spectacular” efforts with an inquiring look and a question: could it be avoided? The answer is clear.
