Compared to March “we are in another world, now the infection is much more distributed. I do not believe that all of Italy is the same: increasingly differentiated responses and precise coordination between state and local administrations will be needed ”. This was stated in an interview with ‘Il Corriere della Sera’ the extraordinary commissioner for the Covid-19 emergency Domenico Arcuri. “The meaning of what we have learned – he says – is to track the virus always earlier, to treat people at home more and more. General practitioners must be able to perform tests at home and treat patients to the greatest extent possible, since the protocols are already standardized ”.

In addition, says Arcuri, “we now permanently do more than 100,000 molecular swabs a day and we are preparing to close the gap between supply and demand. We will give the Regions the chance to reach 200,000 very soon. We closed the public offer of rapid antigenic tests and we will buy 10 million, no longer 5 ”. Arcuri defends the work that has been done in schools: “Student infections are 0.15%, five times below the Italian average; 0.32% of teachers, 0.28% of non-teachers. Today school is one of the most protected places ”.

But the buses were not thought for the children to arrive: “To me, the commissioner responds, I was asked to help reopen the schools in a safe way.” In general, regarding the expenses it is incurring, Arcuri affirms: “The total of my commitments is 2,890 million, plus 447 million inherited contracts from Civil Protection. Also, I have 1.41 billion to update the hospital network. Then 125 million for vaccines, rapid serological, antigenic and molecular tests and 461 million for schools. Of all these resources, 190 million come from donations, the rest from the government ”.
