The prime minister spoke on the matter while in Beirut: “I didn’t want to be invasive in a time of so much pain.”
Giuseppe Conte told the media, during a press point in Beirut, that he had heard “a heartbroken father overwhelmed by all this anguish.” The prime minister confided: “It is not up to me to ask for an exemplary punishment for those responsible. The judges have the task of determining guilt and passing just sentences.”
Conte also made an appeal aimed at protecting the new generations: “Let’s stop for a moment and think, what message are we sending to our children? Investigations show that Willy would have been “punished” by the pack just for trying to put down a fight. Let’s ask ourselves how much violence was unleashed after that gesture “
The parents of the 21-year-old assassinated were very grateful for the prime minister’s gesture: the couple’s lawyer, Domenico Marzi, expressed “his appreciation for the sensitivity shown by the prime minister in being close to those who have suffered similar violence.”
