“That two homosexuals come together in a relationship does not cause a scandal. It is a relationship of love, friendship, mutual support, which should not be discriminated against and less penalized ”. Marcello Pera, former president of the Senate, a secular intellectual who for years had conversed with Joseph Ratzinger, comments on Pope Francis’ phrases about homosexuals contained in the documentary presented yesterday at the Rome Film Festival. “But – he points out – if this union is called ‘family’, then it is marriage, and if it is marriage, in addition to a sacrament, it is a contract that enjoys all related rights, including that of having children, which in the case homosexuals can only be content with the rented uterus ”. And this, adds Pera, “is a scandal in the Church, as well as for many laity. For Christianity, the family is the union of man and woman, because ‘man and woman God created them’, as Genesis says ”. In saying this, “the Pope secularizes the Church, adapts to a cornerstone of current secular thought and also opposes Paul, when he addresses the Romans he says: ‘Nolite conformari huic saeculo’. Rather than conform, the Pope marries him in the middle of the century, and not even everything, only the most radically anti-Christian part ”. At this point, Pera concludes, “I ask myself a question and make an observation. The question: if Genesis is modified and even St. Paul is out of date, what are the most readings in the church? The observation is: if the survival of the West is linked to the health of the Christian Church, then Pope Bergoglio sends us all to the bottom ”.
