I have no idea if Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte and his ministers have ever really worked in their lives. After their dance for days, I would say no, and would also add that they have never seen anyone work. Otherwise they would not keep a country holding their breath and utter uncertainty as they are doing. Not more than a week ago the merry gang that played with dpcm and lockdown, with cashbacks and scooters, with flower gazebos and wheeled benches, said that to avoid too many family gatherings in Italian homes, they would leave restaurants open. for lunch on December 25, 26 and January 1. That said, many thought that being this the only freedom granted in this country, it was smart to reserve a table immediately because with the virus rules the seats would sell out quickly. Good news for restorers that they could have put at least a plaster on the wounds. These people, unlike those who play today, work. And since the holidays were two weeks away, they began to organize: “What are we going to feed our clients on such special days?” And they contacted traditional suppliers to have abundant quantities of special foods, because if you do not move in time there is the risk of not finding those foods or even the necessary quantities: you cannot do it a day or two before, because you cannot find anything more. If there is a full house on vacation, it may be convenient to strengthen the staff during this period, make some short-term contracts, contact a specialized management agency. It’s their job and they know it. Then ten days after the holidays, the government begins to circulate the idea that it might close and they can’t stay open. What to do? Revoke supplier orders as quickly as possible to avoid paying heavy penalties? But are we sure that the government closes? And if you change your mind and leave us open, what good are we to our customers? And what do we do with those waiters called to service who in such hard times were glad to give up Christmas to have some income?
It is work, it is life. Do you think some of those gentlemen who play in and around Palazzo Chigi came up with it? No way. They had to make the decision on Sunday and let it be said that it would close. What’s more: that the photos of the shopping streets on Sundays with crowds in the street had outraged them and that, therefore, it is most likely that even the shops and department stores were closed on the weekends before Christmas.
Decision before Monday. Instead, nothing: it was more important to secure their seats and begin the political verification and Conte met with the delegations of the M5 and the Democratic Party to discuss their affairs. Check on Tuesday, obviously after the third meeting of the scheduled verification: Italia Viva. Matteo Renzi, however, plays the trick and does not appear postponing until tomorrow or after the match.
Well, Conte can finally give Italian workers some certainty. No, all Tuesday passes between rumors of one type and contrary. It filters the indiscretion of a technical-scientific committee through the hard line of a generalized substantial confinement and even the nose in the houses of Italians who are asked not to invite children or parents who do not live together permanently for lunch. But there is also another indiscretion: all the members of that committee who came from ministerial structures would have refused to sign those opinions. True? False? Who knows: the rigorous minutes of those meetings are published 45 days later, when transparency is no longer necessary.
Last night, for example, the minutes of October 31 were published, of which we learned with a very serious delay the irritation of the CTS because the strict instructions they had given about school and public transport had never been followed. It was evidenced from the data, and we said it in real time asking on several occasions to close the system of schools of engines evident from infections (as was done then), but they silenced us saying that it was not like that and that for the technicians it was not there was no problem at school. It was fake, but we only got proof of it last night.
Even yesterday, however, Conte and the ministers who do not know the job continued to play with the lives of Italian workers and showed some indiscretions that did not make any decisions. Maybe it will arrive today, maybe not. But nine days after the holidays, if they decide to close with such delay, they will surely have fumed billions of euros, damaging commercial businesses, suppliers and producers of the raw material. They have already done insane damage that they do not even realize, and this is perhaps the most serious thing that makes clear the irresponsibility of those who govern. These people do not live in reality, they do not even know what it is: what solutions do you want them to find?
I had a long business meeting yesterday. When I finished, at 3 in the afternoon I looked for a sandwich and went to the Alberto Sordi Gallery. It is next to the Palazzo Chigi and on the upper floors are the offices of the ministries without portfolio. It is at the heart of the government, but none of them must have taken a walk there in the last few months. There were two bars and a restaurant. One bar remains, the rest is closed. There were about fifteen stores. Less than a third left. Just empty rooms, shutters closed, lights off. Although the Galleria is small, it is classified as a shopping mall. For this reason, the gates have been closed for some time on Saturdays and Sundays, and it is not even possible to cross the portico. Those who rented the premises closed and fired the staff because they were not standing. The consequence of the dpcm adopted while playing is before your eyes, those of Conte and company. But they didn’t open them and they didn’t even notice. Everything is here.
